Once we begin construction, most of the important decisions have already been made. So, the key to a great experience through this stage is communication. We do this through daily email updates, scheduled progress meetings, our Construction Concierge, and BuilderTrend, our online project management system. All are described in further detail below.
During construction, we provide daily email updates about work that is being done on your project -- both on site and in the office -- so you never have to wonder what's going on.
Scheduled Progress Meetings
We schedule regular, bi-weekly meetings on site to gather your feedback, handle your questions, and make sure that you are always up to date about project progress. Our meetings are organized around checklists to make sure that we cover all of the key points. In addition, we schedule the following meetings in conjunction with, or in addition to regular progress meetings.
Shortly before construction starts, the production team, the construction team and the client all meet on site to discuss the start of construction. This meeting is the formal hand-off between planning and construction, at which point the client's primary point of contact changes. At this meeting, we discuss process issues, site security and client safety, and establish our bi-weekly meeting time.
After demolition (and sometimes excavation) have been completed and all of the unknowns of the house have been exposed, we get the answers to many open questions about your project. At this point, we meet with you to share what we have found and what, if any, adjustments to the plan need to be made to accommodate discoveries. During some projects, there is a short "pause" in on-site work after the Discovery Meeting, so that we can engineer, permit and implement any changes that are required.
We meet again once framing is complete, and we are ready to install rough-ins for electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems. At this meeting, we confirm all of the locations for your mechanical finishes and fixtures, discuss project progress and confirm that change orders are up to date.
After drywall and trim have been installed, and we are ready to begin the finishes for your project, we schedule a site meeting to review everything together. Since finish items often involve many details, this meeting gives us the opportunity to ensure we do things right the first time by confirming your expectations.
Once your project is substantially complete (i.e. the space is ready for you to live in), we conduct a site meeting to review any open construction items, to review the punch list and to discuss expectations for the completion of the project.
Approximately two months after your project is complete, we walk the house with you again to capture any open items that need to be addressed. Often, it is difficult for homeowners to identify all of their concerns immediately upon moving in. It takes some time living in your new home to notice everything.
We have a Construction Concierge who works in the office. She is always available to assist with answers to your questions, and to track down any information you request.
